Summary

A compounded medication is prepared for one patient by a pharmacy. This page explains what that means, who prepares compounded medications for patients in the patient programs offered through Nimbus Healthcare Corporation, what to expect, and how to report a problem. Please read it before you start any compounded medication.

What a compounded medication is

A compounded medication is prepared by a licensed pharmacy for one patient from a prescription written by a licensed clinician. A clinician may choose a compounded medication when the clinician decides that a customized preparation is clinically appropriate for that patient.

Important notice

Compounded medications are not FDA-approved or reviewed by FDA for safety, effectiveness, or quality. Prescriptions are issued only after evaluation by a licensed provider when clinically appropriate.

Who prepares your compounded medication

Lake Hills Pharmacy, a Texas-licensed compounding pharmacy at 12005 Bee Caves Road, Suite 1-A, Austin, Texas 78738, telephone 512-608-9355, lakehillsrx.com, prepares compounded medications from patient-specific prescriptions written by licensed clinicians, unless you choose another pharmacy. Lake Hills Pharmacy is owned by an affiliate of Nimbus Healthcare Corporation.

What this means for you

  • Prepared for you. Your medication is made for you from your prescription. Do not share it with anyone else, and do not use a medication that was prepared for someone else.
  • No FDA review. FDA does not review a compounded medication before it is prepared for you. Ask your clinician or your pharmacist about anything you do not understand.
  • It may look different. A compounded medication may differ in appearance, color, taste, texture or packaging from other forms of the same medication you may have seen.
  • Storage and beyond-use dating. Each compounded medication has storage instructions and a beyond-use date on its label. Store the medication as directed. Do not use it after the beyond-use date.
  • Ask questions. Your clinician and your pharmacist can answer questions about your medication, how to use it and what to expect.

How to report a problem

If you have an emergency or a serious reaction, call 911. For other side effects or concerns, contact your clinician.

You may report a problem with a medication, its packaging or your order to support@nimbushealthcare.com or to Lake Hills Pharmacy at 512-608-9355. You may also report an adverse reaction or a product quality problem to FDA through its MedWatch program.

Pharmacy choice and affiliation

Lake Hills Pharmacy is owned by an affiliate of Nimbus Healthcare Corporation. A licensed pharmacist independently reviews every prescription and may decline, clarify, delay or transfer it when professional judgment or law requires. You may choose another pharmacy at any time, and your clinician will send your prescription to the pharmacy you choose where the law and the pharmacy permit. Some compounded medications may not be available from every pharmacy. Lake Hills Pharmacy publishes its own privacy notice at lakehillsrx.com.
