What is GLP-1?

GLP-1 is a hormone released by the intestines in response to food to aid in glucose metabolism and satiety (feeling full after a meal). GLP-1 decreases the rate at which food empties from the stomach, which reduces calorie intake and promotes weight loss. GLP-1 medications mimick the effects of the bodies own GLP-1 to promote weight loss.

Reduce hunger

GLP-1s help curb food cravings by suppressing appetite

Stabilize blood sugar

GLP-1s improve insulin sensitivity

Slow stomach emptying

GLP-1s slow digestion to make you feel full longer after meals

*Note: Not everyone is eligible for GLP-1 medication. Read more about GLP-1 eligibility in our FAQ.

Obesity increases the risk for other serious health conditions, including heart disease and type 2 diabetes (or prediabetes).

That’s why our WeightWise RX™ program includes a quarterly at-home lab test option* to routinely monitor your metabolic markers.

*At-home lab tests are not available to NY residents due to state regulation of laboratory testingIs this true or necessary to add because the lab test that MDI offers is one they need to take to Lab Corp to complete

Virtual care for WeightWise RX™ involves ongoing asynchronous visits with a healthcare provider. First a provider will review your medical history and lifestyle assessment to determine if you are a candidate for the WeightWise RX™ program. If you are a candidate then your provider will reach out to you with your treatment plan. After completing your initial dose of medication, a new health questionnaire will be provided in order for your provider to review your progress, assess your medication tolerance and adjust and prescribe your next dosage.

Semaglutide is a peptide medication that belongs to a class called glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor (GLP-1) agonists. GLP-1 is a hormone released by the intestines in response to food to aid in glucose metabolism and satiety (feeling full after a meal). GLP-1 decreases the rate at which food empties from the stomach, which reduces calorie intake and promotes weight loss.^1 The body clears GLP-1 made by the intestinal cells within minutes.^2 Semaglutide is given as a weekly injection and maintains elevated levels of GLP-1 for seven days.^3
